First Homeschool Day

We all see the world through a sort-of spiritual telescope. Our telescope consists of many lenses, each representing different life-experiences, learnings, beliefs, relationships, and social influences.

Some of these lenses are beautiful and clarifying. They help us see the world as it actually is.

Some of these lenses, though, are cracked, blurred, twisted… they prevent us from seeing the beauty/meaning baked into creation.

In our first Homeschool session, we learned how others in history saw the world (using Westward-expanding Pioneers as our primary example). We discussed which lenses we want to see the world through, and how a virtuous ancient-Christian perspective can help us live better lives.

Unfortunately, some of the most influential lenses that we get from “the world” are broken to their core. Pride/Greed, Nominalism, Materialism, Relativism, and more. These leneses leave us aimless and adrift in meaninglessness.

These worldly ideas are distinctly anti-Christian, and yet they are all around us. They pervade our news organizations, our institutions of learning, and the very culture we live within.

The Christian alternative to these ideas (Realism, Incarnation, and Hierarchies of Truth/Beauty/Goodness) is infinitely more reliable, beautiful, and produces humans who are driven toward purpose, meaning, and sacrificial Love.

Ultimately, there is one highest possible lens through which we can see the world. One lens that makes everything else fall into place and helps us see the world as it truly is. That lens, is the Logos of God, Jesus Christ.
